I went ahead and made room for a Spanish-sized alloy gas bottle (30cm dia x 52cm high) as buying Camping Gas refills at 13 euros for 6 litres was crazy. Now it's 11.50 euros for 27.5 litres and no changing for many weeks.

It involved ripping out the little shelved cupboard, the wood panel between where the table stores and the gas cupboard (I got rid of the table a while back) and the glass-fibre gas bottle compartment. It was all a bit tricky, but rebuilding a new back for some new shelves was all very straightforward, and no new materials were required, just re-used what came out. I did buy some foam draft strip though to try to make it as gas-tight as possible.

Now to change gas I just empty the shelves and remove them, pull out the back and in/out goes the gas bottle. And there's now loads of space left in there too for odd things. I should have done this ages ago but didn't want to chop up the caravan and felt it might be unsafe, but I'm happy with it.
